Welcome to a walker’s paradise, where a seemingly endless network of trails wind through some of the best landscapes this country has to offer – from isolated beaches and rugged coastlines, through farmland, wetlands, river valleys and towering forest, to tussock-cloaked high country and dramatic mountain ranges.
It’s always a pleasure to work with Tourism New Zealand, as we did on two small but perfectly formed outdoor adventure booklets, first published in 2015.
We wore both our travel writing and publishing hats for these two projects, not only writing the content but also advising on the content layout, design and proofing, thus helping to ensure that every page was word-perfect and clearly presented. They came up and treat, and we trust they have helped many visitors discover and enjoy Aotearoa’s great outdoors.
The Walking Guide was an inspirational summary of 23 hikes including the New Zealand’s nine Great Walks. As well as writing up the 23 trail descriptions, we wrote sections at the front and back of the booklet offering general guidance such as how to choose the right trail, when to go, what to take, and how to stay safe. We fully revised the text for a new edition in 2017 when the Department of Conservation launched its Short Walks and Day Walks. You can download the latest version here.
The Cycling Guide followed a similar track, featuring the 22 Great Rides of the New Zealand Cycle Trail/Nga Haerenga, complemented by sections covering what, when and how. You can download the latest version here, A flow-on project from this was a full revision of Tourism New Zealand’s mountain biking pages, which you can access here.
